Where's the hair?

For 35 years of marriage I have been cutting Boppo's hair. Recently, HE (yes I said HE) decided that he wanted me to start cutting his hair with hair clippers instead of the scissors which I have always used.
At the last hair cut, we tried the clippers for the first time, the cut turned out really very good. Boppo likes his hair short and the clippers got the cut "just right".
Last night he said it was time for another hair cut. He gets out the clippers and gets everything prepared. I begin..... whoops! Hey! I have never been trained and you get what you pay for. I took the largest swap of hair out of the back of his head and it was SHORT! Therefore, I had to proceed with SHORT!
I told him that he needed to tell everybody that he was just practicing and getting ready to be a missionary and that this was totally intentional.
The benefit of it is that we cut off all the grey hair. Well, I should say; we cut off ALL the hair.

Mexican Riviera

A couple of weeks ago we went with our two oldest children, and their spouses, on a cruise to the Mexican Riviera. Let me just say.... we all had a grand time! It was fun to just let loose and enjoy our time together. Usually, when we get together, we have the wonderful grandkids all around. While Boppo and I absolutely love the children in every way; we loved just having their parents undivided attention. It was fun to just see our kids let loose and enjoy what they are seeing and experiencing. We did Karkoke (yes! I actually did Karkoke!! ) We did a 13 line zipline down the mountain side in Puerto Vallarta, did the Family Feud in front of all the other cruisers, enjoyed the food way tooooo much, and just enjoyed being together. We are so grateful for this time we had with Amy and Matt and their wonderful spouses, Neil and Monica, whom we love very much! The pictures prove that we really did the zip line. Way fun!! Our son Matt, and wife Monica, are the brunette couple and our daughter Amy (the blonde) with her husband Neil. Thanks kids for such a great week and wonderful memories!

Shock and Awe!!

When we first started planning for our next mission my dear Boppo stated that he really wanted to go back to where he served his first mission. During the years we have been married we have visited that country on two different occasions. both times I spent the week pulling on Boppo's sleeve saying: "What did he say". What did she say"... all the while Boppo goes on with his conversation. When he stated that he emphatically wanted to go back there I told him I would rather go to a country where we could both have a new experience together. He was so insistent that I finally said: "Should we get called to go back there, I won't go!" Now on the other hand: Steven stated that he would do just about any assignment that we were given but that he really would not like doing an assignment serving in the mission office. He likes to get out and go and do. This is the area where I excel because I like the tedious, meticulous, get things checked off your list jobs. This is what I would love to do. You also get the opportunity to really get to know the missionaries and we do love those wonderful young missionaries. Shock and Awe!!! I guess!!! The picture is taken at the exact moment that we both saw the location to which we were going to be sent and Yep!! We are going back to Helsinki Finland. AND Yep... we are going to serve in the mission office. It seems to me we are even. I get what I want and Boppo gets what he wants. This must be a lesson in obedience. You state that you would rather NOT do something but at the same time you are telling the Lord you are willing to go and serve. Are we willing to go and serve only where and how we want? We said we would go and serve and now....?? This is where the obedience comes in. Now everything has somewhat settled in we are both excited and anxious to get on our way. There is nothing better than serving out in the nations of the world.

Our Mountain Home

There is no place like home. My purpose in beginning this blog was so that I can remember things about home, while we are gone on our next mission (and no we haven't received the call yet.... still waiting) and so that we can remember things about our mission when we return back home again. This is the view from our back yard. After living away from Utah for so many years, we consider ourselves to be living in heaven. From our back door we see the beautiful lights of the valley below, the storms when they come rolling in, the fireworks across the valley during the summer celebrations, and the "Y" when it is glowing on the mountainside. There really is no place like home!

All ready with nowhere to go....yet.

Jacob, all dressed up in his white shirt, tie and "future missionary" badge, came with us to our missionary interviews. We wanted him to remember this day and look forward to the day that he will go for his own missionary interview. This is the reason why we go: So that our children will remember and have the desire and strength to remain faithful in all things.

Sleeping over

We had the 3 older grandkids, who live in the area, on Friday night for a sleepover. It made us wish, all over again, that we had them ALL living close by. We watched princess movies, made sponge animals, had pizza, popcorn, and slept in a tent that we made out of sheets and couches. They did have a good time and we loved having them. The best part is that we can keep them up late and then send them back to their homes grouchey. Payback!!! Alyssa and Paige are the best of friends and the worst of enemies. They always have a grand time going from bedroom to bedroom messing up the beds and using them as trampolines. Here they are using my window seat cushion as a slide. What fun! But, watch out should one of them want something that the other one has.

The Journey Begins...........

This week we "pushed the button". Yes, it is official. We pushed the button which submitted our application for our second mission. I don't know much about blogging but I would like to keep up a blog so that those we love can keep up with our lives the next 1 1/2 years. This begins the next chapter in our lives.
